James L. Powers

Mr. Powers serves as a Managing Director for Trenwith Group, and is the National Practice Leader for the firm's ESOP Services Group. With over 18 years of corporate financial advisory experience, he has provided services to clients for a variety of purposes, including due diligence, feasibility and structuring analyses, and all advisory services related to implementation of an ESOP leveraged buyout transaction; capital sourcing for ESOP transactions; advisory services related to the sale, merger and divestiture of privately held companies and public and private company subsidiaries; fairness opinions for corporate transactions; solvency opinions; valuation analyses for leveraged and unleveraged ESOPs; and valuation and financial analyses for estate planning, litigation support, financial reporting and corporate tax purposes.

Prior to joining Trenwith, Mr. Powers was the ESOP Group Head for Citi Capital Strategies, the middle market investment banking division of Citigroup Global Markets, Inc., leading all ESOP transaction execution for the firm. Prior to joining Citigroup, Mr. Powers was a Managing Director with Duff & Phelps in their ESOP Advisory Services Group. Additionally, he was previously employed in the financial advisory groups of BDO Seidman, LLP and Ernst & Young, LLP, as well as NationsBank (now Bank of America).

Mr. Powers is a professional member of the ESOP Association and the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO), and frequently speaks on a variety of topics at events sponsored by both of these organizations. In 2005, Mr. Powers was elected to the board of directors of Prevent Blindness Georgia, an affiliate of Prevent Blindness America, a non-profit organization that provides free vision screening tests to preschool children, indigent persons, and senior citizens.

Mr. Powers received a B.A. in economics from Georgia State University and an M.B.A. from Georgia State University. He is also registered with FINRA (formerly the NASD) as a General Securities Representative (Series 7 & 63).
